Stupidness is as stupidness does

Perms, combs – oh, and stupidness.

Yep, that’s what’s on the table as we go all “mathsy” with just one week to go in the home-and-away portion of the Neville Richards Premier League season and still precious little set in stone.

Perms, of course, refers to the possible permutations.

Combs is the combination of results necesssary to establish those perms.

And stupidness? Well, you’ll just have to wait and trust Big Foot’s grasp of the language to get you over the line on this one!

Anyway, for now, the maths.

Only the top two teams – the white-hot Peakers and the resurgent Warriors – are locked into finals berths on Saturday week.

And only the “no-show” Pirates and listless Hookers are unable to make the playoffs, the latter also falling meekly out of contention in the Survivor competition this past weekend.

So the first major prize of the season will be determined next Saturday when, although they’re not directly in opposition, the Warriors and Crusaders will fight for the Survivor Crown. The highest scoring team of those two will be crowned Survivor champions, regardless of what happens on the main ladder.

The Warriors can still mathematically top the ladder, too, but will need a thumping win over the Pirates and have the Peakers fall badly to the Bullies.

Conversely, the Warriors can slide as low as fourth should the Goblins and Tornadoes win.

The Goblins, third – who can finish anywhere from second to sixth – find themselves in something of a shootout with the Crusaders, fifth.

The winner of this match is certainly in the finals, but the Crusaders are definitely out if they lose.

Should the fourth-placed Tornadoes topple the hapless Hookers, they will finish third or fourth, but should the unthinkable happen, they’ll still hang on, but only if the Crusaders and Bullies lose.

The Bullies need something of a miracle. They’ll need to hammer the Peakers, have the Goblins beat the Crusaders AND have the Hookers smash the Tornadoes.

Stranger things have happened – it is the Neville Richards Premier League after all!

Anyway, looking back for a second, congrats to the EXTREMELY consistent Bob Gibbs (ha ha ha ha ha ha) for his spectacular and standout 39 in trying conditions, more than enough to pick up the Travis Mathew prize for the week.

The Warriors were the highest scoring team and pick up the Callaway balls.

And because the Pirates couldn’t manage a quorum, the “weak as water” prize actually goes to the Hookers this week.

Now, for the “stupidness” stuff …

Sorry, you’ll have to tune in to the video for Matt’s legendary assessments.
